Deepening understanding beyond the assembly

The Kindness Crew Assembly Challenge introduces key ideas about kindness, curiosity and respect.

This Resources section is designed to go further.

Here you will find carefully selected materials to help school staff develop a deeper understanding of hidden differences — and how everyday behaviours can make a meaningful difference in school environments.

These materials are optional, but valuable for schools wishing to strengthen inclusive practice

What Will Be Available Here?

Over time, this section will include:

  • Short lived-experience interviews: Real people sharing what it feels like to live with differences that aren’t always visible — including neurodiversity, sensory differences, hidden health conditions and mental health challenges.
  • Practical ally principles: Clear, simple guidance on how to create psychologically safe and inclusive environments in classrooms and staff teams.
  • Staff reflection prompts: Questions designed for CPD discussions, INSET sessions or pastoral team reflection.
  • School-level guidance: Ideas for embedding the Kindness Crew principles beyond a single assembly or lesson.

Why Lived Experience Matters

Children benefit when adults model the behaviours we want to see.

Listening to lived experience helps staff:

  • Move beyond awareness to understanding
  • Recognise subtle barriers in everyday school life
  • Respond with confidence rather than uncertainty
  • Build trust with pupils who may not always disclose their challenges

The resources shared here are grounded in real stories — not theory alone.

Built in Partnership with Unseen Aware

Some materials in this section are drawn from the wider work of Unseen Aware, an initiative focused on helping organisations better understand hidden disabilities and unseen differences.

Where appropriate, selected interviews and principles are shared here to support schools in creating inclusive environments for both pupils and staff.

The focus remains practical:

Small changes in behaviour can create significant shifts in belonging.
